DESTINATIONS

Whether it be a day trip or longer excursion, we are always headed to a destination. And with each destination comes a fresh set of subjects and wonders.

I have gathered several destinations here...some were a lengthy stay while others just involved hopping in the car and heading out on a one-day road trip.

ARROYO HONDO

Halfway between Gaviota and Golita is Arroyo Hondo. There is not much there other than a turn-out along Highway 101. But what IS there is the old, inactive Highway 101 Bridge and an active railroad trestle, both spanning the Arroyo Hondo Creek.

What can you say about the High Sierra...it has inspired many people over the years...John Muir, Mark Twain and Ansel Adams to name a few. It is a place of stunning natural beauty punctuated with the tallest peak in the continental United States.

JOSHUA TREE

Joshua Tree National Park is another location that is stunningly beautiful. FDR designated Joshua Tree a National Park in 1936. Located in the Mojave Desert, the rock formations and abundant flora and fauna provide incredible photo ops and sweeping vistas.

The City of Light - Paris...incomparable beauty...the people, the food, the architecture and the history. As Thomas Jefferson once said, "A walk about Paris will provide lessons in history, beauty, and in the point of life.” and that could not be truer.

RANCHO GRANDO

Rancho Grande sits high in the Los Padres National Forest above Ojai. Privately owned, it is filled with animals of all shape and size, from friendly goats to Albert, a camel that thinks he is a dog. Every year they host a photo contest ...these are a few of my images of the amazing animals and landscape of Rancho Grande.

SCARY DAIRY

Located in Camarillo, California, Scary Dairy was built to supply dairy products to the defunct Camarillo State Mental Hospital, now Cal State Channel Islands. When the State Hospital closed, so went the dairy. In the years since, it has become a favorite destination for street artists, street poets and photographers looking to capture some amazing scenery. It is fenced off and entry is forbidden but I did not see that sign until I was leaving...wink wink...
